Work with us

Our centre consists of researchers and teaching staff with positions at other units, departments and faculties at Lund University. Through research projects, assignments connected to education or collaboration, they are affiliated to Birgit Rausing Centre for Medical Humanities. You could be too! Here we describe our principles for affiliation.

About the process

Affiliation to the Birgit Rausing Centre for Medical Humanities is usually a consequence of contacts and collaborations with BRCMH. The affiliation process always begins with a dialogue with the centre manager, Martin [dot] Garwicz [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se (Martin[dot]Garwicz[at]med[dot]lu[dot]se), where wishes, needs and conditions are discussed. There are different types of affiliations: some can be for a certain period of time, others more long-term.

It is important to have a continuous dialogue and annual follow-up with the centre manager about the research, teaching and collaboration interests of affiliated staff that are relevant to BRCMH's activities. Being affiliated to BRCMH is based on mutual active commitment.

Affiliation Criteria

BRCMH is open to researchers who want to be affiliated with the centre. However, a couple of considerations are made in connection to each application. Considerations are based on several criteria. The criteria are based on:

  • Prerequisites to contribute to BRCMH's research areas
  • Willingness to participate in educational assignments
  • Expertise that enriches BRCMH's objectives and activities

The affiliate must have

  • research or educational interests that are in line with and contribute to BRCMH's objectives, strategies and goals;
  • experience of or interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in research or education;
  • experience of or interest in generating external research funding or participating in the development of education.

Other strategic considerations in connection with the assessment of affiliation are diversity and balance within the centre based on, for example, phase in the career or discipline.

We offer you:

  • Opportunity to take part in BRCMH's activities and network;
  • Ability to use BRCMH as a platform or profiling for applications, external contacts and networking;
  • Opportunity to use common resources (tangible or intangible) that BRCMH has at its disposal;
  • Opportunity to gain qualifications by taking on assignments in the medical humanities or for BRCMH.

Send an application to become an affiliate! The application consists of a letter of interest, which, among other things you want to include, clearly states how you meet the criteria plus a 2 page CV. Email the centre manager: Martin [dot] Garwicz [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se. We applications throughout the academic year.
